Scientific analysis

Before the product design process can commence, the fundamental scientific principles of the product or technology have to be established and validated. This scientific analysis stage is a key stage in the product development lifecycle to mitigate risk and identify key issues early.

Depending on the scope of the particular product or technology, the relevant team within Sagentia will be engaged to isolate the key scientific principles which have to hold true for the product or technology to be worth proceeding with. This involves:

  • Understanding fundamental principles to see if the proposed technology is suitable for the task in hand – this may involve researching whether the technology has been used in other markets or products
  • Using analytics models, to understand the multiple factors and gain insight of complex problems – we use mathematical modelling to rapidly assess and compare a wide range of technology options. We are very experienced at rapidly creating analytical (equation-based) models that describe design trade-offs and capture the key principles of each technology
  • Drawing together published research and applying it to the client’s challenges – we often have to access research in multiple disciplines and combine the knowledge into a single set of findings
  • Assessing technologies for scalability & optimisation – we have to review the technologies in the light of how they need to perform in order to deliver a successful product
    • Designing and performing effective experiments – we have core expertise in the use and application of a number of optimisation tools including Design of Experiments which can increase the efficiency of a research programme and reduce the need for multiple iterations of costly lab experimentation
    • Analysing and visualising data – our analysis experts utilise a number of data mining and visualisation tools to assess client or project generated data to rapidly, with a holistic view of the system, identify key responses and trends
