Our heritage

Sagentia is a defining example of the ‘Cambridge Phenomenon’. Our founder, Professor Gordon Edge, is one of a small number of key individuals who have played a central role in the development of the cluster into the globally recognised position that it occupies today.

From the outset, our approach has been highly entrepreneurial, breaking with traditional hierarchical approaches to industry by adopting a multidisciplinary approach to technology problem solving.

Another founding objective was to bridge the divide between what universities and research institutes are capable of and what commercial businesses can provide – uniting the scientific and technological expertise of the academic world with the commercial reality of industry.

From a business model initially focused on IP venturing, we now focus on providing world-class R&D Consulting services to external organisations across three vertical segments: medical devicesconsumer markets and industrial products. We work with clients to add technology innovation at any stage of the product development lifecycle – from needs and market analysis, through to product design and transfer to manufacture.

The company has always had an international focus and today has operations in Cambridge UK and Cambridge USA, meaning clients benefit from working with a company that has global reach but can provide local resources. Today we work with an international client base, with companies ranging from start ups through to global blue-chip corporations.

Our culture and environment is based on continuously stimulating employees to be creative and innovative, whilst operating in a business focused context. Our clients directly benefit from this as it means that new business opportunities and technology-enabled products are developed with the aim of meeting both market and business needs.

We are proud to celebrate our 25th year in 2011, and look forward to the next 25 years of innovation.
