Potential disruptive technology threats identified for a global medical company

We worked with a leading global medical company on a programme to identify and quantify the technology-enabled changes and disruptions that could impact on the current standard of care in the ophthalmic sector over a ten year timescale.

This included the mapping of current care pathways for major diseases and technology scouting to identify emerging innovations. The maturity and owners of these emerging technologies were assessed and the expected timescale and succession of changes mapped. The conclusions reached by our research made a significant difference to our client’s business.

Specifically, we:

• demonstrated how technology could change the clinical management of major ophthalmic diseases
• identified technologies pivotal to change and their impact on the care pathway
• assessed the commercial implications and timescales of the changes
• determined sustainable technologies against those that were susceptible to being superseded by other developments
